Harold’s distinguished 40-year career with the Kentucky Army National Guard began in 1950, where he earned numerous military awards, including the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, and Saint Michael's Award for Aviation. His civic involvement was also widely recognized, with accolades such as the VFW Outstanding Citizenship Award and the Red Cross Exceptional Volunteer Award.

He volunteered at the Frankfort Food Pantry and was always ready to lend a hand to those in need, leaving a lasting impact on his community and everyone who knew him. He was a founding member of the KYNG Memorial.
